Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Studentpad is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No.2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with accessibility regulations
Headers are, at times, not marked as headers. This could make the context and visual cues unclear to people using the site with screen readers. This fails WCAG 1.3 success criterion 1.3.1 (info and relationships).
Some of the elements on our sites use italics, which cannot be easily handled by people using screen readers. This fails WCAG 1.4 success criterion 1.4.4 (resize text).
Some elements of our site are not navigable by keyboard, this makes it difficult for people using keyboard-only navigation (or other similar tools) to move to certain pieces of information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (keyboard).
There is only one method of navigating the site, which may make it more difficult for people who are visually impaired or have cognitive disabilities to find what they are searching for. This fails WCAG 2.4 success criterion 2.4.5 (multiple ways).
The focus is not clear on text sections when navigating by keyboard only. This could make it difficult for users who are navigating by keyboard-only, or other similar tools. This fails WCAG 2.4 success criterion 2.4.7 (focus visible).
Disproportionate burden
Navigation and accessing information
Our video content does not currently have a transcript alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 1.2 success criterion 1.2.1 (Audio-only and video-only (prerecorded)).
Our video content does not use audio description, so people who blind or visually impaired will not be able to hear information about actors, characters, scene changes and on-screen text that are important and are not described or spoken within the main soundtrack. This fails WCAG 1.2 success criterion 1.2.5 (audio description (prerecorded)). Due to the cost of updating these videos this has been listed as a disproportionate burden.
Interactive tools and transactions
We’ve assessed the cost of fixing the issues with navigation and accessing information, and with interactive tools and transactions. We believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
Many of our older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards - for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role value).
Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. By September 2020, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
